BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) -- Lawmakers across New York are pushing the NY For All Act, a proposal that would sharply restrict how state and local officials collect and share immigration information and bar the use of public resources for federal immigration enforcement.
The immigration agency had barred elected officials from the holding facilities. A federal judge this week said they must be given access.
All eight judges worked out of immigration court offices at 26 Federal Plaza in New York City, which is where Immigration and Customs Enforcement is headquartered in the city, the official told CBS News.
Federal ICE agents would be largely barred from arresting individuals who show up for immigration hearings under a proposal filed by a group of New York Democrats, who say the plan would "protect" non-criminal immigrants from deportation.
Hundreds of people had rallied for the family in New York City after they were separated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in November.
